The whole process of ovulation in females is a very complex phenomenon involving different hormones and cell signaling. If one of the hormones in the pathway is out of adequate quantity, there can be an irregularity in the cycles of menstruation and ovulation, thereby delaying the chances of pregnancy at the given time. Myo-inositol is of high significance for women as it helps in treating polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a severe medical condition where almost 10% of the female population of matured age suffers from fertility issues.
What happens during PCOS?
PCOS is a heterogeneous medical disorder that is somewhat supposed as a genetic imbalance occurring in females. It may also result from environmental factors as potential risk factors for obesity, a few physical workouts, and high anxiety levels. Some acute symptoms of PAVOS include prominence of masculine characteristics, infertility due to direct anovulation, disturbed menstrual cycles, and imbalanced metabolic rate. Till date, there is no proper medical cure that has been found for PCOS. But when in women compared to myoinositol, there are rays of hope that natural supplements can improve the conditions of a woman suffering from PCOS.
What is myoinositol?
Inositol is a naturally occurring chemical compound that goes by the molecular name of cyclohexane-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-hexol. It exists as nine stereoisomers of which the most predominant form is cis-1, 2, 3, 5-trans-4, 6-cyclohexanehexol, also called my inositols. The compound has revealed beneficial roles in maintaining the structural integration cells in all eukaryotes. Inositol is a sugar alcohol with a light colored tinge that tastes about 5% sweet as ordinary table sugar or sucrose.
The original synthesis of myoinositol occurs in the kidneys in the following ways:
- Inositol-3-phosphate synthase is an enzyme which is first coded by ISYNA1 gene (Inositol-3-Phosphate Synthase 1).
- It is followed by the isomerization of glucose six phosphate (G6P), which is the rate determining step, by ISYNA1 gene to my inositol-1-phosphate.
- Myo inositol-1-phosphate undergoes dephosphorylation by IMPase (inositol monophosphatase) therefore producing myoinositol in the free state.
How does it work as a supplement?
Myo-inositol is available on the market in the form of tablets and powder. Due to the increased rate of PCOS attacking women of childbearing age, myoinositol tablets, and powdered supplements are gaining limelight and are in high demand. Apart from PCOS, the supplement has shown promising results in treating people with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), insomnia and depression struck individuals. Myo-inositol acts as secondary neurotransmitters that regulate the secretion of primary neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and acetylcholine. Chemical messengers like dopamine and serotonin are actively involved in regulating our mood, sleep, anxiety and other emotions. When these neurotransmitters are secreted in an adequate amount due to stimulation from myoinositol supplements, the properly balanced functioning of psychological pathways is achieved.
The compound has even been involved in the balanced regulation of cell apoptosis (programmed cell death), migration of cells and genome expressions. Thus there are no other supplements in the market compared to myo-inositol that can gift you with all these biological solutions to severe, incurable disorders, at such an easy and safe reach.
